History

Kennett Square is a borough in Chester County, Pennsylvania just outside of the City of Philadelphia. Kennett Square got its name from either the village of Kennett in Wiltshire, England or the River Kennett in Berkshire, England. The “Square” comes from the fact that the original land grant from William Penn was only one square mile. During the American Revolutionary War, Kennett Square was the site of General Sir William Howe’s march to the Battle of Brandywine. Kennett Square is also known for being one of the important stops along the Underground Railroad.
