The Southwest Center City neighborhood is nicknamed Graduate Hospital because of its ties to medical care being offered in this district. In 1889, the Philadelphia Polyclinic served as a local hospital. By 1916, the Graduate Hospital was founded and has been offering rehabilitation and long-term acute-care under the University of Pennsylvania Health System ever since.

After much renovation and rebuilding, the Southwest Center City district is known to many Philadelphians as an up and coming affordable hot spot, perfect for young professionals, new families and even students.
